At the 65th Battery Symposium to be held in Kyoto, we jointly  gave a presentation with Yamagata University entitled "Development of lithium pre-doped Si Anode by electrochemical method undder pressurizing and Electrochemical Properties of LFP/Si cells" (presentation number: 1D16, 14:00-14:20, presentation by Professor Morishita, Yamagata University).  The anode, which has eliminated irreversible capacity by pre-doping, does not require matching the A/C ratio, and even Si, which has a problem with capacity reduction, has a capacity retention rate of 99% or more over 500 cycles.

We participated (not remotely) in the "Tokyo-Thailand Open Innovation for Battery 2024 ~Startup Pitch & Networking~" event held in Bangkok, Thailand, sponsored by the Tokyo SME Support Center, and presented entitled "The Frontier of Hyper Pre-Dope to The Future Dimension" that by pre-doping with high-capacity Si, irreversible capacity is eliminated and the AC ratio can be increased, resulting in a high-energy, high-power, and long-cycle life secondary battery.

It is expected that this new partnership will further accelerate efforts toward the practical application of "environmentally friendly next-generation secondary batteries," contribute to the sustainability of society as a whole, and lead to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions from Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd.'s business.

ORLIB new patent published (JP 2024-58225, "Secondary battery and flying vehicle"). This patent states that the A/C ratio is 0.4 or less, and in particular, the battery has no anode active material and has an A/C ratio of zero. We have discovered that under special conditions, it is possible to charge and discharge several times without an anode, resulting in an unprecedentedly high energy level. According to this patent, the weight of the anode and the electrolyte contained therein is eliminated, and the thinner current collector foil, higher voltage leads to energy densities in excess of 450 Wh/kg. The figure on the left shows the charge/discharge curves of the A/C zero cell. The capacity will gradually decrease with repeated charging and discharging, but it is suitable for applications that are only used a few times, such as an emergency power source etc. If you are interested, please contact us (as it falls under the Foreign Exchange Law List Regulations, please use it only within Japan).

ORLIB Corporation (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Masaharu Satoh), which develops new types of batteries, has selected Toyota Boshoku Corporation (Headquarters: Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture, Representative Director and President: Masayoshi Shirayanagi) as an underwriter. We implemented a capital increase through third-party allocation.

A patent filed in October 2018 and published in Japan in November 2022 has been granted in the United States (applicant is the University of Tokyo). Patent number is US 11,670,756 B2. Now it is noteworthy that all claims, including the manufacturing method, which had been excluded in the divisional application, were granted in the Japanese patent. We would like to express our gratitude to the University of Tokyo TLO, the patent office, and the local agent.

    Using this patent, the energy of various lithium-ion batteries can be improved by 1.5 to 2 times. We hope that the patent will be widely used by everyone and lead to the realization of a sustainable and prosperous world. Please contact me if you are interested.

A new electrode coating machine has been installed at ORLIB. Since the coating accuracy is significantly improved compared to the past, it is thought that the level of cell prototyping will improve. It is also equipped with a drying oven divided into two tanks, allowing for faster and more efficient electrode coating. We plan to use it for electrode coating of batteries for drones.

SoftBank Corp., Sanyo Chemical Industries Co., Ltd., ORLIB Ltd., Nippon Chemi-Con Corp., and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) have been newly adopted in 2022 for the Defense Technology Agency's Security Technology Research Promotion Program. It was adopted as a research project. Focusing on organic cathode secondary batteries, which can be significantly lighter than current lithium-ion batteries, we are working to elucidate the charge-discharge mechanism and to achieve both high cycle characteristics and high weight energy density (Wh/kg). , We will promote the use of unmanned aircraft that can stay in the air for a long time. By accelerating research on organic cathode secondary batteries that do not contain rare metals, we aim to realize next-generation batteries that are less susceptible to resource shortages and rising prices, which are global problems.

ORLIB Ltd. and GSI Creos Corpolation (Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Naoaki Yoshinaga, hereinafter referred to as GSI Creos) will use GSI Creos' proprietary cup-stacked carbon nanotube (CSCNT) as a pure silicon anode. We have announced that we have successfully developed a filled lithium-ion secondary battery (LIB). Until now, pure silicon anode LIBs have been regarded as the ideal form of anode material, but there are many technical issues.It has not been put into practical use. With this achievement, we have come a long way toward realizing next-generation high-capacity LIBs.

A patent for a Si anode, which is one of ORLIB's original technologies, was published (Patent No. 7170330 "Negative electrode for secondary battery and secondary battery"). The patent holder is the University of Tokyo and ORLIB has exclusive license. The patent is for island-shaped lithium carbonate in amorphous Si generated by pressurized electrolysis pre-doping.  We clarified that when lithium carbonate is formed in a specific structure (island shape) instead of lithium oxide, it becomes stable Si with SEI that does not easily deteriorate even after repeated charging and discharging. When Si is used as an active material, it is conceivable that the pursuit of a stable material would lead to some form of similarity to this patented technology, and I look forward to future developments.
